Southern Region Australia of Rotary International consists of Districts and Clubs in Victoria and Tasmania.

Donations In Kind (DIK) is a program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here. These goods however, are valuable to those in needy countries. A central co-ordination committee stores, packs and dispatches the goods to needy countries.

There are currently four DIK storage depots in the greater Melbourne Metropolitan area located at Essendon Airport, Footscray, Pakenham and Geelong. Separate facilities are located in Tasmania in Hobart and Launceston.

Recipient countries include Belarus, Burma, Eritrea, Fiji, Kenya, Nauru, New Britain, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Timor Leste, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

Partnerships with Rotary DIK

We continue to work with a number of partners on various projects.

We are indebted to our "Friends of Rotary".

These include:
Daniel Zuzek from Boab Medical for donations of medical goods.
Lence Talevska from Medibank Private for redundant uniforms.
Swinburne University for redundant computers.

We also value the help and expertise of the Victorian Student Aid Program (VSAP) who are medical students, resident in International House, Melbourne University. They came over to the Essendon Store to help sort out and repack medical items for us.

We are continuing to seek funds from Clubs for DIK.

There were a number of times goods were transferred between DIK depots to help fulfil "Wish Lists". Once again we are indebted to our volunteers.

I want to remind all Rotarians that in the financial year 2010-11 DIK Southern Region was a $6.2 million enterprise.

Goods were valued at $5.4 million - Volunteer labour valued at $524,000. Click here for details

Individual reports of each District are available on their District web sites.

I want to inform all Clubs of the availability of speakers on DIK. Contact your District International chair. Once again I would ask that all Clubs put aside some funds for DIK.

As Southern Region Co-ordinator, I wish to continue and consolidate liaison between Districts and Regions for expertise, ideas and goods for distribution to developing countries.

Please go to each District's website for more information and reports.

I would like to continue to raise the profile of DIK as a worthwhile program of Rotary.
