Cyclone Evan has struck Samoa and Fiji causing havoc and destruction.

rnzRotary is working with Disaster Management Agencies in these countries and it is anticipated that as well as Emergency Response Kits (ERKs), food, water and clothing will be needed.

Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS) will advance funds to enable these supplies to be purchased and distributed immediately.

They are therefore asking clubs to support them and have launched an immediate appeal. They are also working with the New Zealand Government through MFAT and the NGO Disaster Relief Forum NDRF.

Please refer to their website www.rnzwcs.org for ways to donate.

More about Mosquito nets for East Timor

For some years now, the Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) have had a program called Adopt A Village, where donated funds are used to provide long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets to the people in the "adopted" village. These nets were distributed in East Timor - some districts were missing out.

So RAM decided to step in and fill the gap. Now Health Ministry officials in East Timor have asked that Australian Rotarians be a part of the distribution of these mosquito nets and that campaigning is about to start.

Rotarians make Connections

dikTwo Victorian school principals had surplus assets to dispose of when their schools merged on a new campus. They were valued at $37,000 and they wanted them to go to an overseas school in need. They knew to ask Rotarians to fulfil that objective. Tufutafoe school on remote Savii Island in the Samoa group was the answer. Time was critical for the collection of material.
